Shower Top Lexan* cleaning instructions

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Proper cleaning procedures and use of chemically compatible cleaners are important in maintaining the Shower Top's performance. These are the recommended cleaning procedures as per GE Plastics, the Lexan* manufacturer.

CLEANING PROCEDURES

1. Wash sheet with a mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water.
(See list of compatible cleaning agents below.)

2. Using a soft cloth or sponge, gently wash the sheet to loosen dirt and grime.
    DO NOT SCRUB.

3. Rinse well with clear water.

4. Dry thoroughly with a chamois or cellulose sponge to prevent water spotting.

Note: A squeegee can be used ONLY on the initial pass over the Shower Top's surface that is "dripping" wet. A soft cloth or sponge should be used to remove the remaining water streaks and spots – not a squeegee.

CLEANING AGENTS WHICH HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH LEXAN UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS

Aqueous Solutions of Soaps and Detergents - Windex, Top Job, Joy, Mr. Clean, Fantastik, Formula 409

Organic Solvents - Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Neleco-Placer, Kerosene, Naphtha (VM&P grade), Hexcel F.O. 554, Turco 5042

Alcohols - Methanol, Isopropyl

CAUTIONS

  • Do not use abrasive or highly alkaline cleaners. Never scrape with razor blades or
        other sharp instruments.
  • Benzene, leaded gasoline, acetone or carbon tetrachloride should never be used.
  • Do not clean in hot sun or at elevated temperatures.
  • FRESH PAINT SPLASHES, GREASE AND GLAZING COMPOUND REMOVAL

Before drying, these conditions can be easily remedied by rubbing lightly with a good grade of VM&P naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, or butyl cellosolve. Afterwards, a warm final wash should be made using a mild soap or detergent solution and a thorough rinsing with clean water.

    SCRATCH REMOVAL

Hairline scratches and minor abrasions can be removed or minimized by using a mild automobile polish. There are a number of such products on the market. Two such products that tend to polish and fill scratches, making them invisible, are: Johnson Paste Wax and Mirror Glaze plastic polish (M.G.M. 10), Mirror Bright Polish Co., Pasadena, CA. Prior to general use, it is suggested that a sample of LEXAN* be tested with the polish selected. We recommend keeping some of the LEXAN trimmed off during installation for cleaner and polish tests if you will be using products not listed here.
